24-year old Jeremy Lusk succumbed to severe head injuries he sustained while attempting the Hart Attack backflip. Lusk successfully completed the initial leg of the trick but was unable to control his landing after taking off from a smaller ramp for the second part of the dangerous stunt. The bike pitched forward and he landed head first. His full-faced helmet was sheared on impact; it stopped his head from sliding forward with the momentum and his body flipped over. After the accident Lusk did not regain consciousness, he was in a medically induced coma till he died. His parents and wife were by his side when the end came.

Lusk, known as the Pitbull, got into trouble with the 100-foot long and 20-foot high jump when he was unable to get back on the seat after the backflip. Lusk’s sad accident comes at a time when he was enjoying his most successful year as a Motocross racer. Jeremy Lusk won a gold medal in the freestyle motocross competition at the X Games last summer at the Home Depot Center, and won a silver medal in the best trick event.
