Jesus is the top-notch rebel: He stood against this world’s selfishness, went against society’s expectations. He did the beyond belief so that we could be free: free from hate, free from unforgiveness, free from lies, free from death. Jesus died without defending himself, died forgiving his enemies (us). Jesus was unjustly framed up and branded a criminal and executed. They killed him because he declared that the poor, the outcasts, the slaves, the throwaway people, the wretched of the earth, are the most beloved of God. Jesus came not merely to reveal to us the love of a heavenly Father but He also came to make compensation for the sins of His people. As our august High Priest and Lamb of God, He would be wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities.
Jesus resists the impulse, believing in the power of love freely chosen. Jesus exhaustively trained disciples who, after his death, interpreted and propagate his teachings. Within a few decades his followers comprised a religion clearly distinct from Judaism.
