Understanding what motivates your pet will give you a leg up in your training. You will also get educated about what your dog likes or doesn’t like, and what will work and what won’t. Offer your dog different training regimens, positive reinforcement and lots of love while training him. If your dog is happy, it will behave better and be easier to train.
Try using special or unique treats during training to make your dog more interested. Training treats should not become confused with everyday treats, since training treats are meant to encourage obedience in your dog.
The first step in training a puppy is to make sure he knows his name. Repeat his name regularly, so he will learn to come to you when he hears it. If you pour too much information and training into your puppy, it will actually be counterproductive. A puppy’s attention span is short and it has a limited amount of energy, so sessions should remain short and positive. If you overdo it, he is likely to forget everything he learned and simply remember the experience in an unfavorable light, making it that much harder for you the next time you attempt the training.
If you keep training sessions positive, your dog will always look forward to them. Your dog will enjoy training sessions most and be able to pay attention well if lessons are short. Ten to fifteen minutes is a good guideline. Rewards should be plentiful and varied. Give your dog plenty of praise and affection for his hard work and efforts. If you make training fun, he will enjoy listening, too.
Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man’s best friend.
