And although I have had trouble with critters before, one thing I had never thought that I would ever have to do is figure out how to get rid of squirrels. Squirrel pest control is not on the radar of most people. When I was a child, the squirrels were some of my favorite critters. I would feed them peanut butter off of a spoon and watch them nervously darting from tree to tree as they chased each other about. I absolutely adored squirrels, Chipmunks, and other similar creatures. They were cute and in my eyes, they could do no wrong.

That was before I grew up and realized all the damages that squirrels can cause. It started off innocently enough. They would try to raid the bird feeder, coveting the same seeds that the birds enjoy themselves. That was easy to deal with with a squirrel proof bird feeder, but that wasn’t the last of their shenanigans. When they invaded my attic, I knew that I needed to get rid of squirrels. I didn’t notice it for a long time, But one day it finally dawned on me. I heard scurrying in the walls, and to my horror, I found out that there were holes that had been made by the squirrels in the side of my house. This created a draft, increased the chance of mold contamination, and greatly compromised the weatherproofing that I had so carefully done.

The problem is that it is easier to talk about getting rid of squirrels than it is to actually do it. All the methods that I tried to get rid of squirrels failed at first. The squirrel traps were useless, and the squirrel bait didn’t even seem to attract them. Somehow, they seemed to sense my intentions and wouldn’t come near. Then I found some squirrel repellent. That worked pretty well for a while, but the problem is that you have to spray so much of that stuff that it isn’t really worth it. If you want to get rid of squirrels using the deterrent, you need to spend literally hundreds of dollars on the squirrel spray. I don’t know if the stuff is weak or if it is meant to defend smaller properties than I have, but it seems to disperse so quickly that it doesn’t do any good. Ultimately, the only good way to get rid of squirrels is to buy a nice hunting dog. I hadn’t wanted to do this, but in the end I had to.
