What are Ferroalloys?

Ferroalloys are alloys consisting of iron (less than 50%) and one or more other metals. It is used in the production of alloy steels due to its importance as a source of various metallic elements. Some of the principal ferroalloys are the following: ferrotitanium, ferroboron, ferromanganese, ferrovanadium, ferrophosphorus, ferrochromium, ferrosilicon, as well as ferromolybdenum. Ferroalloys have lower melting ranges than the pure elements; they can thus be incorporated more readily in molten steel.
